Originally laid down as a Dutch destroyer and the lead ship of the Gerard Callenburgh class, she was completed by the Germans under the name ZH-1 following the occupation of the Netherlands. After her commissioning in 1942, the destroyer served mainly off the coast of France. During the Normandy Landings, ZH-1 was part of a German force intercepted by the Allied squadron in the Battle of Ushant. She suffered significant damage in the action and was subsequently scuttled on June 9, 1944.
