The technical specifications included protection from 138.6 mm shells at a distance of more than 9,000 m and from 152 mm shells at a distance of more than 14,000 m. The armament comprised nine 152 mm guns. During World War II, La Galissonnière patrolled the coast of Tunisia and provided cover for battleship Provence during Operation Catapult.
